According to news reports around the entertainment industry, well-known rapper and lyricist Wiz Khalifa was recently arrested on drug charges on Monday night in Greenville, North Carolina, following a performance at East Carolina University. Reports detailed that police took the artist into custody after searching his tour bus. MTV reported that the rapper was booked into jail around 1:30 a.m. and posted $300,000 bail to be released around 8:00 a.m. ET.
Police reported that Khalifa was charged with a felony count of marijuana trafficking and marijuana possession, and a felony count “of maintaining a dwelling/vehicle/place for sale or storage of marijuana and one misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.” Nine other individuals were also arrested on the same drug charges, including marijuana possession.
Khalifa, who was named one of the “Hottest Breakthrough MCs of 2010,” recently signed a multi-album deal with Atlantic records. However, in a recent interview, the rapper boasted that he has a $10,000-a-month weed habit and launched his own brand of rolling papers.
Reports detail that the rapper posted tweets on Twitter referencing that he planned to use marijuana that night following his concert. He tweeted, “Smoke outs Greeneville, nc tonight. Fall thru wit ur finest plant life.”
No court date has been set yet in this case. More information will be available as police continue their investigation.
